POCO M4 Pro 5G Review

Introduction

Poco is back in business with the Poco M4 Pro 5G, which has its debut in India in February 2022 after a very long break. The Poco M4 Pro has a 5000mAh battery, MediaTek Dimensity 810 processor, and 5G connectivity. It is a redesigned Redmi Note 11 5G or Redmi Note 11T from China or India. The Poco M4 Pro 5G features the same core as the Note 11T, except for changes to the facia.

Price and Availability

The starting price for the 4GB RAM & 64GB storage edition of the Poco M4 Pro 5G is Rs. 14,999. While the top-tier variant with 8GB RAM and 256GB of storage costs Rs. 17,999, the 6GB RAM & 128GB memory variant costs Rs. 16,499. Poco Yellow, Cool Blue, & Power Black are the available colors.

Design

The Poco M4 Pro 5G has an eye-catching, vibrant appearance. The M4 Pro 5G's front features have a 6.6-inch display with a cutout for the camera in the center and a chin at the bottom. People would have preferred more if Poco had removed the silver ring around the camera, even though it looks right.

On the reverse is a sizable square camera module bearing the POCO logo in bold. The device's vivid color starkly contrasts the module's black plastic construction. A little 5G marking that reaffirms that the smartphone has 5G connectivity can be seen in the bottom left corner.

The smartphone is available in black, blue, and yellow. People prefer smartphones with a matte rather than a glossy finish. Fewer streaks are one of the reasons to adore matte finishes. The phone is small and lightweight. The back camera module has an imposing look and tactile feel and is generally comfortable to grip.

The connectivity choices are located on the side rails, and on the Poco M4 Pro, the right edge has a power button and a fingerprint sensor. The USB Type-C port, 3.5mm headphone jack, microphone, and customary location (bottom edge) of the USB port are all there, along with a pair of speakers at the top & bottom rails. The second microphone, which Poco M4 Pro 5G also possesses, is at the top edge.

Display and Sound

The Poco M4 Pro 5G consists of a 6.6-inch LCD panel with a 90Hz refresh rate, falling short in the competition as most phones at this price point have an AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 120Hz or 90Hz. Poco has thankfully added dynamic. Although users don't mind phones with LCD screens, calibration is more critical than LCD or OLED. The colors on the Poco M4 Pro 5G displays are realistic. Depending on the type of content you are viewing?Vivid, Saturated, or Standard?you can switch between color profiles.

Brightness is a big problem, which makes it difficult to view outside in the sun. Even in moderate lighting, People had trouble reading, even with the brightness levels set to the highest. The makers had focused more on the display aspect because it would have improved the phone's overall performance.

A good sound system and an excellent display are required for an even better overall performance. Dual stereo speakers in the Poco M4 Pro 5G provide above-average performance. Powerful, sharp, and clear sound comes out. Users can enjoy their favorite music in the old-fashioned way thanks to the 3.5mm headphone jack because headphones make listening to music more enjoyable. People download MP3 songs and use wired earbuds to listen to them in the modern era. The Poco M4 Pro 5G enables them to do so as it has adequate storage and a 3.5mm connection for earphone jacks.

Performance

The MediaTek Dimensity 810 chipset, which is entry-level silicon produced using a 6nm node process and offers 5G capabilities, is powered by the Poco M4 Pro 5G. The processor handles everyday tasks like browsing, making calls, sending texts, and streaming. The virtual RAM capability of the 8GB LPDDR4X RAM allows for a 2GB RAM expansion. Opening and closing apps and running multiple programs simultaneously, such as social media and web browsing, are all balanced up by this RAM and 810 SoC. No app ever lags, crashes, or becomes unresponsive. Its 256GB of storage enabled me to store many audio files, films, and pictures.

The Dimensity 810's ARM Mali G57 GPU, which might provide a tolerable performance in lower visual settings but breaks out in a large sweat as soon as people tried switching to higher HD graphics, is the leading cause of gaming's performance gap. Only when the visuals are adjusted to low or possibly medium can games like Asphalt 9 and BGMI can be played without lag. Given that Poco says it creates its products for gamers, gaming should have been enhanced.

The Poco Launcher, Poco's MIUI-based operating system, is used on the Poco M4 Pro 5G. The rest of the UI is identical to prior MIUIs, but it is MIUI with an entirely new set of icons. Since it runs MIUI 12.5, it has every functionality that a Redmi device has. Android 11 presents yet another flaw, but maybe Mi's upcoming release of MIUI 13 will address it.

Apart from Moto's stock Android, bloatware has become one of the most common problems with modern UIs, and this one is the same. Several third-party apps are preinstalled on the Poco M4 Pro, but users can happily remove the ones that are not required. There were UI frame drops when Users first restarted the device, but they stopped after a while. It is a relief that there is no adware.

Battery

With normal usage, the 5000mAh battery inside the Poco M4 Pro 5G easily lasted slightly over 1.5 days. The phone has a strong battery and supports 33W rapid charging, which recharged it from empty to over 90% in 52 minutes. There were no heating problems with the device; forget about the heating; even after intensive use, the device doesn't even become warm.

Camera

The Poco M4 Pro 5G differs significantly from other smartphones in terms of its camera. Unlike other mid-range devices, it has two back cameras, one with a 50MP, 76-inch sensor with a wide lens and the other with an 8MP ultrawide lens. No pointless macro, depth, or portrait sensors are included to add a lens and advertise the system as a triple camera. The Poco M4 Pro's dual rear camera arrangement is decent and provides what is expected from a smartphone camera. Photos taken with the 50MP camera are detailed, lively, and vivid in good and bad lighting settings.

8MP Ultrawide sensor captures images with the right amount of saturation and a good field of view. The camera on a mid-range phone is adequate because the photographs are detailed even in large areas. Grainy images were produced when Night Mode was used, which was annoying.

The 16MP selfie camera on the Poco M4 Pro 5G performs excellently. The selfies that are taken are appealing, detailed, and subject-focused. The front camera's portrait mode could be more helpful and seems more like a publicity stunt. The overall camera performance is above average on the Poco M4 Pro 5G.

Conclusion

The Poco M4 Pro 5G smartphone has both benefits and drawbacks. It has a unique design, a strong battery, a powerful processor, and a good camera arrangement, but it needs to catch up in the OS and display areas. Although it isn't the best in its category, the performance can't be categorized as the worst.

It supports 7 5G bands; therefore, if you believe you can use it until 5G is available in India, you should buy it. Smartphones like the Redmi Note 11, Realme 9i, or Narzo 50 may be better choices in this price range if you don't require a 5G phone.
